The orphans of the Takalani Children’s Home received several donations during an event at the institution’s premises at Nzhelele Siloam. Makhado Municipality donates R5 000 to the institution. Khoroni Hotel and Convention Resort handed soccer and netball kits to the orphans during the event.
Department of Correctional Services together with PhalaPhala FM crew built a four-room house for Takalani Children’s Home so that they can accommodate more children. Hollywood bets Makhado donated computers to the children’s home. Children were happy to receive the computers as we were told that they have been promised computers in the past but never received them. It was a fulfilling day to see those smiles on the children’s faces and the stakeholders as well. The donation comes as a gesture of social responsibility from the facility. “We noticed that many schools were struggling and unable to give computer skills to learners due to a lack of computers,” he said. “Then we knew that it was our social responsibility to equip these schools’ computer labs.”
Reris Insurance Brokers donates traditional drums, which they will use when performing traditional dances such as malende, tshigombela and tshifasi. Mayor Mashaba indicated that she was offered an opportunity to choose any institution to whom she could donate R5 000 on behalf of Reris Insurance Brokers. “I chose Takalani Children’s Home, as I felt that there was a need for me to donate the money to abandoned and orphaned children. Takalani is a non-governmental organisation and it really needs people’s support”. Department of correctional service in Thohoyandou raised funds among workers to buy Easter gifts for Takalani Children’s home organisations. The gifts include food, clothes and books “We wanted to give our children an early Easter gift, so that they could have a feeling that they were still members of the larger community here in the district,” said Mr Farisani Mulaudzi, head of community corrections. He even encouraged other community members, businesspeople and other stakeholders to get involved in taking care of the children who stayed or lived in children’s home.
Takalani Children’s Home in Siloam village recently benefited from this charity. The money generated during last year’s annual golf day was used to help the home-based care centre. Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre (KSCC) donated a standby generator, groceries, the enhancement of the playground and the installation of the generator, all to the cost of R70 000. Prison director Mr Lazarus Ncongwane said they saw a need to help Takalani Children’s Home after it was found to be in dire need of a standby generator. “We realised that the issue was a priority and we felt that we should assist them,” he said. According to him, the children’s home uses candles in cases where the electricity goes off. All the stakeholders were pleased to see the children happy and loving the gifts they brought for them.
