National Library Day

We’re here to announce that Takalani Children’s Home will host a National Library Day on the 18th of April 2021. The celebration aims to support the national drive to promote literacy through the provision of library and information services.
Our Library is hosting related public programs (including talks with authors featured), offering a podcast book club, and launching a social media campaign across all channels to ask the public which books made them #LoveReading. Takalani Children’s Home has worked to encourage and foster a lifelong, true love of reading for children, to help them find the books that get them excited, that help them escape, that keep them turning pages, that help them learn, grow and have fun.
“As we mark our anniversary, we want to celebrate this role, and acknowledge its continued and increasing importance in a world with so many distractions. Books can provide new perspectives, a calming presence, knowledge, or just a few hours of enjoyment. All are important, and we encourage everyone to look at the list, talk about it, debate it, and start reading. And then tell us which book made you love reading.”
Our departure point is usually Centurion, we can make stops in Pretoria, Polokwane & Louis-Trichardt. We can negotiate an initial stop in Johannesburg. R400 you can secure yourself a return trip from Gauteng to Siloam
Join us as we collaboratively participate in reading and writing activities at Takalani Children’s Home Library on Saturday 18 April 2020. Statement regarding COVID-19
On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) was alerted to several cases of pneumonia in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. On 7 January identified the new virus as a coronavirus, which is a family of viruses that include the common cold, and viruses such as SARS and MERS. Coronavirus Disease 2019 is now a global pandemic. The virus spread to South Africa, with the first case confirmed on 5 March 2020 by Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize. President Cyril Ramaphosa declared it a national disaster on 15 March 2020.
Takalani Children’s Home is taking the threat of infection in our community extremely seriously. We are monitoring the rapidly-changing coronavirus (COVID-19) safety guidelines from local, national and global health authorities to ensure we are prepared for the challenges over the coming weeks and months. The health and wellbeing of our staff, delegates, speakers, volunteers and guests are our top priority.
Our thoughts are with those impacted by the coronavirus all across the globe, and we hope that all of you are staying healthy, safe, and informed during this rapidly-evolving health crisis.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and remain committed to ensuring that every kid has access to high-quality playspaces. We can’t wait to get back to teaming up with communities to build inspiring places to play.
